Revision for Subjects – Aqaaid, Fiqh, Islamic History & Akhlaaq

It’s that time of the year again, Alhumdulillah!

I’ve had this in my drafts ever since November last year but finally decided to post it now. Alhumdulillah.

For tips on the revision of Orals, click here: https://madrasahteacher.wordpress.com/2020/11/09/revision-of-surahs-duas-hadeeth/

𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐬 𝐅𝐢𝐪𝐡, 𝐀𝐪𝐚𝐚𝐢𝐝, 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 & 𝐀𝐤𝐡𝐥𝐚𝐚𝐪.⁣

• 𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐳𝐳𝐞𝐬: ⁣

Class Quizzes are one of the most fun and effective ways to revise work.

⁣- The class can be split into groups/teams. Ideally, Girls on 1 team and Boys in another team. ⁣

– Mention your rules for the quiz such as ‘no shouting out answers’ etc

⁣- Set an incentive or reward for the winning team.

⁣- Draw up a score board on the board. ⁣

– You should ensure to ask questions of similar difficulty to each group in 1 round. ⁣

𝐌𝐲 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐳 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈’𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤:⁣

I made the quiz more fun/challenging by giving each team a chance to set questions for the other team.

And they can appoint a leader (or you can!) to question the other team. (You’d actually be surprised at what difficult questions they asked and how strict they were with giving points! Hehe)⁣

✨ This is a no prep activity if you use the questions found after each lesson in the textbook.

Or, you can use a past paper to choose questions from.⁣

𝘈𝘨𝘦 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘦: 𝟽 𝘶𝘱𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴 (𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝟷)

⁣⁣• 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫/𝐁𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫

⁣Select a few lessons from the kitab from which each student should choose 1 lesson to design a creative A4 poster together with a little presentation or revision of the lesson.⁣

Each child can then present the lesson with the poster to the rest of the class.⁣

Again, this is a no prep activity and you can choose an incentive for those that complete this activity (such as free time or reading time or even R5/R10)⁣This revision activity can be done in pairs or in groups also.⁣

𝘈𝘨𝘦: 𝟿 𝘶𝘱𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴 (𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝟹)⁣⁣

• 𝐒𝐞𝐭 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐦 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝

⁣- Pair the students up (use your discretion and avoid pairs where personalities clash, 2 high-achievers or 2 low-achievers)

⁣- Choose a specific amount of lessons

– Ask them to prepare an exam/test for the partner⁣ on those lessons

– Once they’ve prepared it, ask them to swap papers and give them a time limit to complete.

Then, swap papers back again and each gets to mark the paper they set.

𝘈𝘨𝘦: 𝟷𝟶 𝘶𝘱𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴 (𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝟺)

• 𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧/𝐁𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫⁣

At the beginning of the Madrasah day/time, Choose 1 lesson for each/few students and give them time during class to prepare the lesson as revision. ⁣

They can be creative or use the board. (Don’t forget to say: ‘Today Moulana Hanzalah/Apa Maariyah (use child’s name) will be teaching us today! – they love it!

)⁣𝘈𝘨𝘦 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘦: 𝟷𝟶 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘶𝘱𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴 (𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝟺 𝘶𝘱𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴)⁣

• 𝐏𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐮𝐩 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐬/𝐈𝐜𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐬

⁣⁣Use the same set of sticks that were used for your Orals revision and stick questions onto them. ⁣⁣

If the student answers correctly, he/she or if in teams, they get to keep the stick.

Winner is the one with the most amount of sticks.⁣⁣

𝘈𝘨𝘦 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘦: 7 𝘶𝘱𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴 (𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝟺 𝘶𝘱𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴)⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

• 𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐞⁣⁣

Use any board from a board game (P.s: make sure it has no animate objects/features).

Make your own question cards or use a past year exam paper. (use different types of questioning styles like True/False etc also).

⁣⁣- You can pair the students up or make teams for this game.⁣⁣

– Use the 30 seconds timer. ⁣⁣

– Winning team is the one that answers most questions correctly (1 point per answer/move 1 space per each correct answer)

⁣⁣𝘈𝘨𝘦 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘦: 𝟿 𝘶𝘱𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴 (𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝟹 𝘶𝘱𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴)⁣⁣⁣

May Allah Ta’ala make it easy for your students and bless them with understanding and amal. Aameen.

Ramadan Reflections Activity

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalāmu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullāhi Wa Barakātuh

Alhumdulillāh, we have reached the halfway mark! May Allāh accept. Āmīn

I made the 1st page of this activity to do with my students today. Alhumdulillāh, it is an activity that can be done by anyone from Age 10+.

(Yep, even adults may find these beneficial, Alhumdulillāh!)

The 2nd 2 pages of the Activity can be done in the last few days of Ramadan or after Ramadan.

You could even cut the text boxes out and stick them to a bulletin board, or classroom display wall. And there will be so many useful discussions come out of this Inshā’Allāh.

Keep a look out on my pages (Telegram, Instagram and WhatsApp) to see the end result of these in my classroom.

I hope you and your students benefit from it Inshā’Allāh!

Request your special duas

Was Salāmu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullāhi Wa Barakātuh

Ramadan Activities – Part 2

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

The idea for this stemmed from the Arabic Airplane Themed video that does its rounds every year at the start of Ramadan, if you’ve seen it, you know how amazingly done that is! And if you know me, you know how much I love Airplane Themed stuff! (Hehe)

You’ll find the Boarding Pass and Luggage Tag has two styles: The first is Sha’ban to Ramadan and the second is Dunya to Jannah.

Ramadan Boarding Pass

Ramadan Luggage Tag

My Ramadan Itinerary

I had planned these activities for last year – but, we were online during Ramadan so Alhumdulillah, finally got to do them this year and the kiddos are loving it!

They are taking it so seriously and ready to kick anyone out (of the class!) who didn’t bring their boarding pass or luggage daily! Hehe

I know your kids will enjoy it too so go ahead and print!

Remember me in your special duas during these Muabrak days

Was Salaamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

Springing up Our Salah

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

From the Ahadīth of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, we are taught to teach children to pray Salāh from age 7. ⁣⁣

Alhumdulillāh, we as teachers encourage this but as they grow older, it’s important for us to instil the importance of not missing a Salāh in them.

⁣⁣Last year, I was teaching 9-10year olds and when all of them had turned 10, I decided to do a 𝐒𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐒𝐚𝐥ā𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 of 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫.

This post has details regarding Week 1 of the theme. InshaAllah, more to come regarding the next weeks.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐞 & 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐦 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐤𝐬.⁣⁣

I bought oval-shaped clocks for the boys and heart shaped ones for the girls. (Clocks were purchased from Durban – Osman’s for approx. R35 each)⁣⁣

The reason for gifting them the alarm clocks was to teach them responsibility and to create awareness in their homes also.⁣⁣

The purpose of creating the theme was to create interest and support to the students in performing all 5 Salāh as many kids feel unsupported from their parents and home situations.⁣⁣

Envelope Contents

Each student’s envelope contained:

Envelope Contents
  • Yearly Perpetual Salah Calendar (for my city – Durban)
  • The Cutest Daily Salah Charts for 2 months which I downloaded from www.riadaljanna.com
    • Salah Doorknob Hangers encouraging waking up for Fajr Salah (download found in this blogpost)
      • Plain Paper which we used to write special letters to the parents regarding their intention to perform all 5 Salah and requesting Dua and assistance. See the pic below
Letters written by the students to their parents

Salah is Better than Sleep

Front of doorknob hanger – You have permission to sprinkle water on my face
Back of doorknob hanger – I’ve set my alarm to wake up for Fajr Salaah

The students coloured and designed these and I laminated them after which, they took it home to use. Alhumdulillah, the feedback after this was great so I decided to share it.

Click the download button below to download the PDF and print it inshaAllah!

Oh and don’t forget to make them write “Salah is better than sleep” on both sides of the door hanger handle.

Alhumdulillāh, as the days went by, they progressed and many of them started performing Fajr every day.

P.S: I have written a post about Salaah Time in the classroom, check it out below:⁣

https://madrasahteacher.wordpress.com/2020/02/10/salaah-time/

I hope you found this beneficial and I’d love to know your thoughts and feedback after you’ve also tried it out!

May Allah accept all our efforts and forgive us for our errors. Aameen.

مع السلامة

All About Me Activity

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

At the beginning of every year, I love playing games or doing other activities for the learners to get to know each other and for me to also learn more about them.

Finding appropriate activities in this regard hasn’t been difficult but I wanted to create one with an Islamic ethos.

This ALL ABOUT ME activity reinforces Aqeedah of Allah AL-Khaliq, AL-Wadood and students will have fun decorating and writing about themselves.

You can also use this as an icebreaker activity and ask learners to present this in front of you and their classmates.

I hope you find this useful and beneficial for your classroom and students inshaAllah.

R-E-L-A-X Testing Tips Posters

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم⁣⁣⁣⁣

Relax Testing Tips Poster created for my classroom

Exams, Tests, Marks and End of the year = High stress levels & anxiety for students & teachers.

⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣While most of us will be using our best stern face during the next few weeks, here are a few 💡𝐓𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠/𝐄𝐱𝐚𝐦 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭⁣⁣💖⁣⁣⁣⁣

➡️𝟏~ ⁣⁣𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐈𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞⁣⁣⁣

Even small environmental changes for students can result in big changes in performance. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

When students are more relaxed, they tend to perform better and this is particularly true for students who face academic challenges.⁣⁣⁣⁣

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐈’𝐯𝐞 𝐩𝐮𝐭 𝐮𝐩 𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝: 𝐑𝐄𝐋𝐀𝐗. 𝐀𝐥𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐡, 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐚 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐛𝐲 𝐝𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐨 𝐚𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐑𝐄𝐋𝐀𝐗 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

After creating this poster, someone very dear to me asked me to create the same poster for her so I thought of designing it on the computer instead of making another one!

So here you go! 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝟑 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐬:⁣⁣

Summer Themed
Green, Yellow and Black
Green & Yellow

I wanted to create them as cost effective (less ink) and with calm colours so it can be of benefit to anyone inshaAllah

➡️𝟐~ 𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐎𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝⁣⁣⁣

Make sure your students have everything they will need to take the tests, including a ruler, eraser, pencils and colours.

I like to make them make a list of what they’ll need and bring all items neatly labelled 1/2 days prior to exams. ⁣⁣

➡️𝟑~ 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠⁣⁣⁣

Allow them to keep their usual ‘places’ for comfort but extra spaced out than usual to minimize distraction and temptation to cheat. I like to give them cardboard folders to place in front of them to cover their tests and keep them focused on their own tests.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

➡️𝟒~ 𝐃𝐮𝐚⁣⁣⁣

Most importantly, Start every exam session with 2 Rakaats of Nafl Salaah and Dua.⁣⁣⁣

Revision of Surahs, Duas & Hadeeth

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم⁣⁣

𝐅𝐮𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐡𝐬, 𝐃𝐮𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐡

⁣⁣𝐒𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐬⁣

Each child is rewarded with a sticker for every Surah/Dua/Hadith read correctly. At the end, teacher can reward them according to how many stickers they have.

⁣⁣𝐏𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐮𝐩 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐬/𝐈𝐜𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐬⁣

Stick a piece of paper with the name of Surahs/Duas/Hadeeth onto the sticks. Students have to read it correctly before being allowed to keep the stick. Player with the most sticks wins.⁣⁣

𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠⁣

Match the surah/dua/hadeeth to its name. Students have to read it correctly before taking the set. (Create your own cards by photocopying the Surahs/Duas/Hadeeth from your kitab and lay them out on a desk/table upside down)

⁣⁣𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐥⁣

Wrap up a class gift or class incentive (such as ice cream day or outside free play time) with many layers of paper (we always have some used paper lying around in our classes, don’t we?)⁣

Each layer should have a piece of paper with a surah/dua/hadeeth name. Students have to read correctly before unwrapping the layer, if they can’t, make sure to have a plan in mind for them to learn it correctly.⁣⁣

𝟑𝟎 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐬

⁣Use any game board from a board game (P.s: make sure it has no animate objects/features) Make your own question cards or stick Surah/Dua/Hadeeth names onto the board. You can pair up or make teams for this game and use the 30 seconds timer to see how many Surahs/Duas/Hadeeth can be recited in 30 seconds.⁣⁣

𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡⁣

Apa throws a bouncy or beach ball at learners in random. Students have to catch the ball and correctly read the Surah/Dua/Hadeeth that the Apa chooses in order to remain in the game. ⁣⁣⁣

𝐒𝐩𝐢n 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞⁣/Stick

Students on each end of the bottle may test each other a Surah/Dua/Hadeeth of their choice.

May Allah make it easy for us to assist the students in our care to keep their memorization strong and accept all our efforts.
